Medicare Rebates Now Available for Psychology
Medicare rebates are now available. You need to get your GP to refer you for psychological services under a GP Mental Health Care Plan if you wish to obtain the rebate for up to 12 individual sessions and/or 12 group sessions. The rebate for clinical psychological services is $119.80 per hour for individual therapy and $28 per group therapy session.
PLEASE NOTE: Psychologists are able to offer you private health fund rebates if you have extras cover. Depending upon your health fund, you may be eligible for rebates for both individual and group therapy. These rebates significantly reduce the cost of your treatment. If you are unsure what your entitlements are, you are advised to check with your health fund before commencing treatment.
To ensure that you Medicare Rebate is available you must:
- bring a referral letter from your doctor with my name on it to your first session.
- bring a copy of your mental health treatment plan to your first session.
If you do not bring the correct paperwork you will not be able to get the Medicare rebate. |
Therapies: |
Anxiety Treatment Australia offers cognitive behavioural therapy for:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (excessive worrying)
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (e.g. this condition may develop after: a motor vehicle accident,an assault, or some other event where the individual was exposed to a life threatening or severely injurious situation which involved themself or others).
- Panic Disorder (anxiety attacks)
- Specific Phobias (e.g. heights, dogs, spiders, blood etc.)
- Social Anxiety ( fear of being negatively judged or evaluated by others)
- Body Dysmorphic Disorder (excessive preoccupation with one's appearance, worrying about an imagined defect or blowing out of proportion a slight fláw in one's appearance).
Some people may not fit the criteria for a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder but be experiencing symptoms of stress and anxiety and require stress management. Anxiety Treatment Australia also provides stress management. |

Catherine began her career working in one of Melbourne's community mental health clinics. Catherine now works in private practice in Richmond, Victoria and was a committee member of the Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria. She specialises in the cognitive behavioural treatment of anxiety disorders: social phobia, panic, agoraphobia, generalised anxiety and chronic pain. Catherine offers both individual and group cognitive behavioural therapy for social anxiety, see Group Therapy for details of forthcoming 'Overcoming Shyness & Social Anxiety' programs. Individual cognitive behavioural therapy sessions are conducted in Richmond, Victoria but group cognitive behavioural therapy sessions are conducted in Hawthorn, Victoria.
Catherine Madigan has experience working with Workcover, TAC and CRS clients. Catherine's work with anxiety sufferers has been featured in Melbourne newspapers such as 'The Age', and 'The Herald-Sun', as well as 'For Me' magazine, 'New Idea', 'Women's Health & Fitness' Magazine and 'The Progress Press'. Catherine has also appeared on Channel 2's 'Dimensions'. Catherine has also been a contributor to 'The Age' newspapers Single's File' which was a column on relationship issues. Catherine has also, in the past done a talk-back psychology segment on 3RRR, a Melbourne radio station.
Catherine Madigan offers both individual and group CBT therapy for anxiety sufferers. She aims to provide brief, effective, affordable CBT in a friendly environment. |
